Under 13's v St Georges 24th June 2009
This week Madeley u13's entertained St Georges on
a warm and sunny evening. Madeley lost the toss and were asked to field and
with the opposition totalling 289 Madeleys batters had their work cut out.
Special mention goes to Ashley Turner, Ali Sabin,
Callum Patterson, James Pratt and Callum Hodson who all bowled really well
taking wickets at regular intervals.
It has to be said that Madeley bowled too many
wides which did not help our cause.
Madeley's opening partnership was solid and steady
and although we lost one wicket our running total was 215 after 4 overs, Then
Ali Sabin batted fantastically well and played the shot of the match with a
cracking cover drive that anyone playing in the first team would have been
proud of. All the batsmen worked really hard and with our last pair batting we
needed 40 runs off the last 4 overs.
Enter D.J who batted excellently, he eventually
scored 37 runs smashing the ball to all parts of our picturesque ground, we
ended up 3 runs short but the effort the lads put in once again was first
class.
It has to be said that a couple of the opposition
parents let themselves down going over the top with their celebrations at the
end, but again credit goes to all the Madeley players who acted professionally
and took the bitter sweet taste of defeat on the chin.
Final mention again goes to D.J who played one of
the best innings that Chris Hodson (Manager) and Pete Sanders (Coach) have
ever seen - well done mate.
Keep up the good work lads
