2nd X1 v Quatt 18th April 2009
Our 2nd X1 started this year's campaign with a
visit to the Quatt Oval to face a Quatt side looking to gain some revenge on
last season's fixtures where we Madeley came out on top in both fixtures. When
we arrived the ground looked an absolute picture but we were a little unsure
when they started to roll the wicket just before the toss took place. Quatt won
the toss and invited us to bat on a wet slow track that could and did just about
everything from swing to keeping low and popping. Madeley were making good
progress when we lost "verb" to his ever present flamingo shot and when "Woody"
holed out to mid off and "Face" and Mick Roberts both got good balls we went
from 38 - 1 to 44 - 4, "Hoddy" and "Lee Allen" batted well together and with a
parnership of 89 moved the score 133 - 5, with overs running out the score
eventually arrived at 161- 7 leaving our host to score 162 for victory. "Hoddy"
ending up with a good grafting 67 and Lee 23.
Quatt's reply was very slow and with the score at
40 - 1 with just over 20 overs gone thanks to some excellent bowling from "Pepe"
ie Kieran Richards without any real success. Our Pirate (Face) then came onto
bowl and with his first ball sailing out the ground for six we all thought oh
god what's he doing only for Face to return to his mark and follow it up with a
fantastic inswinging yorker to take his first wicket of the season, with some
variable bowling Face completed his spell with figures of 5 - 43. Madeley
completed their victory in the 49th over with Sam Norman taking the last wicket
to fall. Quatt were 123 all out leaving Madeley with the first victory of the
season by 38 runs.
