1st X1 v Newtown 20th June 2009 - John Fawcett Reports
Absolutely abysmal. Madeley's
performance on Saturday was one of the worst witnessed in recent years. In the
main 3 areas of the game Madeley were found woefully short against the bottom
team in the Marston Shropshire Premier league. Batting first Madeley's top order
mostly gave away their wickets to the bowling of Davies. While the bowler may have
bowled a consistent line and length, Lloyd, Jones and Fawcett all threw their
wickets away with at best, questionable shots. Where last week the lower middle order
collapsed it was the supposed better batsmen at the top who disappointed this
week.
Chris Hodson dug in well and put 35
on the board. He is the only batsmen who can say he performed at somewhere near
his best. Madeley’s batting in recent weeks has been shocking and this weekend
put the icing on the cake. The team posted a meagre 111 in the 50 overs.
Madeley's bowlers usually come to the
rescue but this was not to be the case against
Madeley's performance must pick up
next week as they make the short trip to Much Wenlock. Madeley's ability to play
spin bowling will be tested by Wenlock's oversees professional Kuldeep Diwan who
has bamboozled many a batsmen already this season. From Saturdays performance
things can only get better for Madeley…. Surely!?
