Important please read

  Equipment

All equipment required in training sessions can be supplied by the club. However, we do encourage youth players looking to play competitive cricket to obtain their own equipment. It is important that a player feels comfortable with the equipment they use - a bat of suitable weight is particularly important. We do ask that players attend sessions in suitable training clothes (T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms/shorts) and trainers with good grip.

Nets

Net practice involves wearing full batting kit - leg guards, gloves, ‘box’ and helmet to face bowling using hard cricket balls. The club has 3-bay nets and a bowling machine. This excellent facility needs to be well looked after so it can be used by Madeley cricketers for many years to come... so no cricket spikes are to be worn in the nets.

 Safety in the nets

As well as batsmen wearing the proper protective equipment the following safety points must be followed...

Always be aware - when waiting to bowl look down the net and stand out of line of batsmen in other nets.

Is it safe to bowl? - wait for the previous bowler to clear the net before bowling.

No heads in the net! - if more than one net is being used, wait until it is safe to collect the ball, Push your hand or bat in to the middle of the net and retrieve the ball with your foot.

Clear the net safely - walk out to one side of the net and turn to face the batsmen when the next delivery is bowled.

Matches

  Under 11

The East Shropshire Cricket Board league fixtures for Under 11’s are played on Wednesday evenings. All match practice is excellent experience and the managers will try to get as many players as possible to compete at some point in the season. It would be helpful if parents could come along to away matches in particular to assist with transport

  Under 13 and Under 15

The East Shropshire Cricket Board league fixtures are played on Wednesday evenings for Under13’s and on Sundays for Under 15’s. All match practice is excellent experience and the managers will try to get as many players as possible to compete at some point in the season. Youth team players may also like to make themselves available for the full Madeley XI teams who play matches on Saturdays and Sundays. Put your name on the availability board in the club and tick the dates you are available
