Madeley this week made the short journey to newly
promoted Much Wenlock 2nd X1. On a good looking wicket Oddy won the toss and
invited our opposition to bat first. Much Wenlock started cautiously and only
when a few bad balls were bowled were they then to open their shoulders. After putting on 88 Chris Hodson captured their opener L.B.W with one that
kept low. Jamie Lloyd bowled well without any real success in the early
stages of their innings and with one or two going through the slip cauldron
this is area of our fielding we must improve on.
Much Wenlock went
from 88 without loss to 172 - 9 thanks to some good bowling from our second
X1 captain who took 6 - 33 from his 16 overs. When looking at our bowling we
must all learn to bowl one side of the wicket and try to cut down on the
amount of extras we seem to concede each week.
Madeley's reply started
badly when Woody was bowled and was soon followed by Oddy and Boss and
indeed the whole of the top order was dismissed leaving us on 39 - 6 after
only 12 overs.
Kieran Richards and Sam Hathaway got the score up to 86
when the final wicket fell leaving Madeley 2nd X1 tasting the bitter taste
of defeat for the first time since the start of last
season.
Hopefully this was a blip and nothing more but we must all be
prepared to work hard and graft for runs and wickets when we play our arch
rivals Broseley this coming weekend.
Much Wenlock 20 points Madeley 4
points.
This result has meant us slipping from Ist place in the league to
3rd.
