As it happened the skipper won the toss (A rarity just
lately) and asked the opposition to bat. The wicket was mostly very dry and in
fact probably too dry as the ball went through the top. Although it made
batting a little awkward (indifferent pace) it didn't really contribute to the
downfall of the Wem batsmen. They were soon in trouble at 22 - 4 and never
looked in any sort of control ending with a mere 74 runs 24 of which were
extras. Andy Pugh grabbed 4 wickets with Dinesh and Jamie bagging 3 each.
In reply Madeley's innings got off to the worst possible
start when the in form Steve Jones was dismissed first ball. However that only
seemed to spur Steve Pugh on. The ball regularly found its way to the boundary
and 31 came off the first 4 overs. John Fawcett also gave good support and the
result never seemed to be in doubt.
Although Statto fell for 34 that was the only other wicket
and Madeley ended very comfortable winners
on 75 - 2 after only 18,4 overs.
