This week Madeley travelled the short distance to
Reman Services who are riding high at the top of our league. Madeley's skipper
Chris Hodson won the toss on a strange looking pitch with loads of grass on
it, and in the hope of doing something the opposition would not be expecting
decided to bat, This worked for about the first 16 overs where the score raced
to 68 - 1 thanks to some good stroke play from Steve Maden, Chris Hodson and
Mark Mason, at which point Steve departed for 39. When the skipper fell the
score then read 70 - 3 with approx 30 overs left. This is where our game fell
apart and we were despatched for a paltry 117. This was approx 100 - 150 short
of a testing target considering the fire power our oppostion had playing in
their second eleven.
Madeley's reply was poor with only Steve Faux
bowling with any conviction. Unfortunately he was not rewarded for bowling
with good speed and good lines. The only contentious part of the game came
when Porteous from the opposition nicked one behind which was caught by the
kid. He started to walk then stopped and examined the bottom of his bat saying
to their umpire he thinks he may have broken his bat at the bottom when he
nicked it.
The game was over by 4.50pm with our host knocking
the runs off in 16 overs.
Our batting is becoming a bit of a concern and all
of the troops must pull their finger out and graft to get some runs under
their belt.
Reman Services 20 points Madeley 0 points (yes 0
points)
Quatt at home next week with the boys licking
their wounds a reaction to this result is required to get our season back on
track.
