2nd X1 v Newtown 3rd May
2008On a warm sunny day Madeley
2nd X1 entertained their counterparts from Newtown. Madeley's skipper lost the toss and was invited
to bat on a green wicket which was of no great worry as the skipper confirmed
that he would have batted first anyway.
Boss and Woody started bright and breezy but with
22 on the board Woody lost his leg stump. With partnerships all the way down the
batting order Madeley amassed 221 - 8 with Lee Allen batting well scoring 41
nearly completing his first 50 for Madeley. However special mention to Sam
Norman and especially Joe Dawes who both batted excellently for scores of
43no and 41 respectively. Well done both of you it showed courage skill and
a lot of
determination.
With 221 on the board Madeley took to the field and
Newtown lost their first wicket in the 2nd over with Sam Hathaway finally
packing away his football scarf and decoding to play cricket. Sam finished with
2 - 24 from 9 good overs. Steve Faux back after injury also bowled well and fast
although may have been a little on the short side for this wicket. Jamie Lloyd
and Chris Hodson both bowled well again and mopped up the remaining batters with
Jamie taking 3 - 22 and Oddy taking 4 - 4 from 5.4 overs.
Madeley's fielding was sharp and seem to have
continued from last year's run of good form, however we must not get complacent
and continue to fight in each game.
Finally I would like to thank Loll and his team of
groundsmen for preparing a good wicket and an immaculate outfield when some of
our opponents continue to struggle to play games due to recent
weather.
