Park St was bathed in sunshine and with the wicket looking better than all last
season, losing the toss and being invited to bat should not prove to much of a problem.
After Madeley lost an early wicket in came Steve Jones to join Steve Pugh
and they once again showed what a valuable pairing they make when they
compiled a stand of 162 runs. Both batsman looked like they might get their
tons but in the quest for boundaries their innings came to an end. 'Jonah'
making 87 and 'Statto' 73.
(Steve Jones pulls to the boundary)
'Verbal' then played some good shots to fire a breezy 33 off 23 balls.
Further batsman gave their wickets away in the pursuit of quick runs and
Madeley eventually finished with a decent score of 239 - 7.
Bomere Heath's
reply got off to a good start and they had 41 on the board before the first
wicket fell. This was quickly followed by a second and when Andy Pugh took a wicket with his first ball (The batsman
shouldered arms and watched the ball hit the stumps) three wickets had gone
for 67. The 100 came up with no further loss and at this point Bomere were
scoring at a faster rate than Madeley had achieved earlier.
However the wheels really came off for Bomere with the introduction of
Shaun Rigby who took wickets with his first two balls. The batsman made two
huge misjudgements firstly pulling across the line and skying a catch to Andy
Pugh and then missing a high full toss which hit the stumps without bouncing.
(Steve Pugh creams a four)
A third wicket came Shaun's way when another aerial shot was well taken by
Steve Pugh (with a little bit of body aid). With Andy Pugh having a couple of
successful LBW shouts and Dinesh mopping up the last man Bomere were bowled out
for 129 leaving Madeley the victors by a comprehensive 108 runs.
