Madeley visited Albrighton this week hoping to
improve on the performance at Welshpool. The game had been reduced to 35 overs
due to the poor weather and hopes were quickly diminished as they lost a very
important toss. Things got worse when they got off to a poor start and then
crawled along to a score of 48 - 4 off 24 overs. It was hard to see a positive
outcome at this point unless we were going to bowl out the opposition for
around 100 (Unlikely)
Dinesh and Jason Willets did make things a little better
with the only worthwhile partnership of the innings. They added 51 with scores
of 37 and 21 respectively.
Madeley finished on 123 - 8 which in my book was never
going to be enough. The hole had been
excavated with only 48 on the board and 11 overs left. Running between wickets
needs to be improved. If the ball is hit to a boundary fielder some batsmen
amble the first run and when the fielder fumbles and misfields he gets away
with it.
Madeley continued digging when Albrighton's
innings commenced. The hole reached gigantic proportions when 5 catches
were grassed. Their opener offered no less than four chances before he was
eventually caught behind off the fifth for a 'majestic' 53, average 10.6 per
innings. Their overseas player had already gone after he too was caught behind
off Andy Pugh. His eyes lit up but he edged to Boss who gratefully took the
chance. However the damage had been done the score was 97 - 2. Five more
wickets fell with Grumpy ending with figures of 6 - 27 but Albrighton were
home winning by 3 wickets.
