1st X1 v Ludlow 26th April
Ludlow won the toss and it was no surprise to find Madeley being asked to bat first on a very damp wicket.
With the new ball moving around and some decent bowling
from Ludlow, runs were hard to come by and it was more a question of survival.
(Steve Jones smashes a four)
Steve Jones did well to hang around for 21 overs
before being caught off a top edge trying to sweep, but with his dismissal the
score was only 35 for 5.
At this point John
Fawcett came to the wicket and he was to play one of his better innings for
Madeley. He was still there at the end and completed a well deserved fifty off
the last ball.
With good support from Steve Maden 23 and Shaun Rigby 7
not out, the score had reached a very respectable 136 for 8 at the end of the
In reply Ludlow got off
to a shocking start and never recovered. Terry Owen took a wicket with his
first ball and when their pro was run out for a duck after only facing two
balls the score was 13 for 3.
(John Fawcett on his way to 50)
Wickets continued to fall with all bowlers chipping in.
Shaun Rigby took a couple of sharp catches. Terry and the skipper shared 6
wickets, Steve Jones took a couple and Rodney Dunn mopped up the last man.
All in all a good result for Madeley but they were
probably helped by a somewhat lacklustre batting display from Ludlow.
