Madeley arrived at
their Park Street home ready to banish the memories of their 9 wicket
humiliation the week previous. Glorious sunshine made conditions ideal for
betting and gruelling for those in the field. Madeley 'supremo' Simon woodcock
lost the toss and we were made to field by Perkins. This was not too bad of a
blow as we were unsure what to do ourselves!
After a brief but
thorough warm up from the RAF's answer to 'Duncan Fletcher' (Andy Halliday) we
took to the field. Madeley were up against it from the word go as they started
the game with ten men. Rodney 'Lord Lucan' Dunn was no where to be seen! Perkins
got off to a great start and rattled 30 odd from the first 5 overs. At this
point we were starting to think that it might be a long hard day in the field!
Fortunately for us, opening bowlers Jamie Lloyd and Andy Duncan fletcher'
Halliday had other ideas.
Jamie bowled
superbly down the hill from the Park street end and ended up with 6 wickets. The
best of these was a slower ball which totally bamboozled Perkins number 6 and
had the bails flying through the air. Andy was a handful from the Bowling
Green end and his big off cutters were out-foxing the opposition. It should be
noted at this point that 'Lord Lucan' had graced us with his appearance and
blamed his Dad for stating that it was a 2 O'clock start. Nice work, Rodney you
plonker!
Anyway,
Madeley bowled Perkins out for 74 with even 'Lord Lucan' himself chipping in
with 2 wickets. Madeley made a change to the usual opening batsmen as Andy Lloyd
and John Fawcett took to the field. They never looked in any trouble and cruised
to 60 odd for no loss. Andy Lloyd holed out to Long off after a number of classy
looking shots. Mickey Roberts again put the opposition bowling to the
sword. His most notable shot being a pull over backward square leg for 6 off the
first ball he faced! Nice work Mickey!
By the time Madeley
had knocked off the runs the time had reached 15:35. Not bad work! Simon
Woodcocks army goes marching on!
Next week Welshpool
make the long trip to 'fortress' Part Street. Lets hope this game lasts a bit
longer!
